From May 15th to June 5th, I will be working an independent research project in order to learn more about globular clusters and programming with the language Interactive Data Language (IDL) with Dr. Rupali Chandar from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Toledo. This project is a continuation of a project I worked on last fall with the same professor at the University of Toledo, where I identified a group of globular cluster candidates from an image I downloaded from The Hubble Legacy Archive and compared them with a group of known globular clusters using the terminal based software IRAF and the image visualization software called SAO DS9. This time, I will read and learn more about globular clusters. In the meantime, I will also get access to the software IDL and finally learn how to write code in IDL for the purpose of analyzing data in the field of astronomy.
